Mixing + Mastering™

This course teaches the process of mixing and mastering simultaneously.

The “+” is because all the plusses outweigh the minuses.

Mixing + Mastering™ The “+” in the title is because all the plusses of learning and utilizing this process outweigh the minuses. This is a skill set that all engineers and producers should know. This course also covers the traditional two-step method of carrying out the two processes – which can be a cat and mouse game because sometimes your best mastering option is to re-record the bass track!

Developed by engineer-producer Steve Carr who has credits for engineering, producing, mixing, mastering and/or re-mastering over 450 albums and counltess hit songs (Discogs.com), Mixing + Mastering™ teaches the proven process used in his professional studio for decades. It also includes the design plans for his Cascading Console which makes the most out of today's technolgy to carry out mixing and mastering simultaneously.

This course utilizes three multitrack DAW files of live musicians playing three styles of music recorded in a home studio. You’ll first learn about the general characteristics such tracks need to have in order to achieve broadcast quality results and acceptable loudness levels with minimal processing. Then you’ll study more advanced mixing and mastering techniques such as triggers and side-chain processing. Mixing + Mastering™ three different styles of musical instrumentation gives you a broader perspective, allowing you to become a more versatile mixing and mastering engineer. Also covered: mastering subjects that include LUFS, the ISRC and DDP image files.
